The Champlain Canal connects the Erie Canal and the Hudson River at Waterford to Lake Champlain's southern most village, Whitehall. The Champlain Canal travels the route of early explorers and America's pre-revolutionary war history. New York's cities along the Champlain Canal's shores include Saratoga Springs, Schuylerville, Fort Edward and Whitehall. Whitehall is considered the birthplace of the United States Navy. At the northern end of Lake Champlain boaters and land based bicyclists/hikers can use Quebec's Chambly Canal to ultimately connect with Montreal and the St. Lawrence Seaway.
